Why Rain Gutters Matter in the Treasure Valley
Boise averages 17 inches of rainfall per year, and spring snowmelt adds a heavy surge in March and April. Without a properly sized gutter system, that water runs directly off your roofline onto your foundation, siding, fascia boards, and landscaping. Over time, unmanaged drainage causes foundation settling, basement moisture, rotted fascia, and eroded soil around your home. A correctly installed seamless gutter system captures all of it and routes it away from your structure before it can do damage.
Materials We Install
We work with three gutter materials, each suited to different budgets, aesthetics, and performance requirements:
- Aluminum — The most popular residential gutter material in Boise. Available in .027 inch standard gauge or heavier .032 inch commercial-grade aluminum. Aluminum is rust-resistant, handles Idaho freeze-thaw cycles well, and is available in more than 25 factory-baked colors to match your home's exterior. Most residential installations use aluminum.
- Steel — Used on commercial buildings and residential projects that need extra strength or heavier snow-load capacity. Galvanized steel costs more than aluminum but resists physical impact and carries more weight without deforming.
- Copper — The premium choice for historic homes and architectural statement properties. Copper gutters develop a natural patina over time, never rust, and last 50 or more years when installed with soldered joints. We are one of the few gutter contractors in Idaho with hands-on copper gutter installation experience.
K-Style, Box, or Half-Round: Choosing the Right Gutter Profile
Not all gutters are the same shape. The profile you choose affects how much water your gutter system can handle, how it looks on your home, and how easy it is to maintain.
- K-style gutters handle higher water volume than round profiles of the same width, mount flush against the fascia, and suit most modern Boise-area homes. Available in 5 inch and 6 inch widths.
- Box gutters are used on commercial buildings, large custom homes, and structures with flat or low-slope rooflines that require high-capacity drainage systems.
- Half-round gutters suit craftsman bungalows, historic homes, and properties where a rounded profile matches the period architecture. They are easier to clean because debris does not stick in corners.
Gutter Installation in Boise's Climate
Boise winters bring freeze-thaw cycles that stress any gutter system. Ice buildup in poorly sloped gutters causes water to back up under shingles, which leads to roof and attic damage. We slope every run at a minimum quarter inch per ten feet so water always flows toward the downspout, even when the weather is at its worst. Downspout placement matters too: we locate them to keep water away from your foundation and to discharge onto surfaces that direct it away from your home.
Appearance and Color Options
Gutters affect curb appeal more than most homeowners realize. We stock more than 25 factory-baked aluminum colors, from classic white and musket brown to contemporary black and slate grey. We will match your fascia, trim, or roofline to give your home a finished appearance. For copper gutters, the natural bright copper darkens to brown and eventually develops a green patina that many clients consider the most attractive detail on their home.
Gutter Maintenance After Installation
A new gutter system protects your home for decades if you keep it clear of leaves, debris, and buildup. The Treasure Valley's cottonwood season in late spring and leaf drop in October are the two periods when gutters clog fastest. We recommend cleaning your gutters at least twice per year. If you want to eliminate that maintenance, we install gutter guard systems that prevent leaves and debris from entering the gutter while still allowing water through. We also offer an annual maintenance plan if you prefer to hand that task off entirely.
Service Areas
We install gutter systems throughout the Treasure Valley, including Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell, Eagle, Star, Middleton, Kuna, Wilder, Homedale, Parma, Marsing, Fruitland, and Payette. We also serve Ontario and Nyssa in Oregon from our Greenleaf shop. Free estimates throughout all service areas.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a gutter installation take?
Most residential installs take a single day, typically a few hours depending on the size of the home. We will give you a specific window at your on-site assessment.
Do you install over my existing gutters?
No. We remove your old system first so we can inspect the fascia underneath and make sure your new gutters are hung on a solid, properly pitched surface.
What size gutter does my house need?
It depends on roof size, pitch, and roofing material. Five inch K-style gutters handle most Idaho homes, while larger roofs and commercial buildings often need 6 inch or box gutters. We will size it correctly at your free assessment rather than guess.
How much does gutter installation cost in Boise?
Most single-story homes in the Treasure Valley run between $1,400 and $2,600. Two-story homes typically fall between $2,400 and $4,500. The final number depends on linear footage, gutter profile, material, color, and the number of downspouts. We provide exact pricing after an on-site measurement, not a per-square-foot estimate over the phone.
How long do gutters last in Boise's climate?
Properly installed aluminum gutters last 20 to 40 years in Idaho's climate. Steel gutters typically last 15 to 25 years depending on the quality of the coating. Copper gutters last 50 or more years. The biggest factor is installation quality, specifically slope, hanger spacing, and corner sealing. Our work is backed by a lifetime no-leak guarantee.
What gutter profile is most common in Boise?
K-style gutters in 5 inch width are the most common choice for residential homes in Boise and the Treasure Valley. They handle Idaho's spring rain and snowmelt volume well, mount cleanly against the fascia, and are available in the widest range of colors. Six inch K-style is the right call for larger roofs and homes with steep pitches.
What happens to gutters in Boise winters?
Boise's freeze-thaw cycles are the main stress on gutters. Ice builds up in gutters that are poorly sloped or installed with too few hangers, causing them to pull away from the fascia or allow water to back up under the roof edge. We slope every run correctly and space hangers at no more than 24 inches apart so the system stays secure through the season.
Do I need a permit to install gutters in Boise?
In most cases, no. Gutter replacement and new gutter installation on existing structures does not require a building permit in Boise or Ada County. If you are part of an HOA, you may need color approval. We can guide you through that process.
How do I prevent my gutters from clogging with leaves and debris?
The most effective option is a gutter guard system, which covers the gutter opening and lets water in while blocking leaves and debris. We install several styles depending on your roof type and the volume of debris your trees produce. If you prefer not to add guards, cleaning twice per year, once in late spring after cottonwood season and once in November after leaf drop, keeps most gutters clear.
